Licence
You need to obtain your provisional driving licence before you start your driving lessons. It is illegal to drive on the road without a licence. Application forms can be obtained from most post offices.
The licence consists of two parts - the photocard and the paper counterpart. Make sure that you keep both parts safe. Make sure you don't throw the counterpart away with the other paperwork that comes in the envelope.
When you pass your test, the examiner will offer to keep your provisional licence and arrange for your full licence to be sent through the post.
When you have passed your test, in a sense you are still "on probation". If you accumulate two driving offences in the first two years, you will lose your licence under the New Driver Act and will revert to provisional status.
